Witness to History
October 10, 2016
We are witnessing the historical moments of great change. This is the precipice. The election will signify the last gasp of the old worlds, the inhalation of a new world.
In my opinion, the people who support Trump are the neanderthals of our world. Life is changing too quickly for them. Their “world order” is based on hierarchal structures, dominance and submission, superstition, belief in supernatural influences, or that might is right. This world order is being replaced by rational, measurable, logic—a scientific world that is not limited by moral precepts of superiority based on primitive racial, gender, or social strata.
These people feel a desperate, panic need to return to a mythical Better Neverland, a place and time which existed only in their vague imaginings. They have to change, evolve, or become extinct.
I think, as I have said to my friends, that Trump will win. He speaks to fear. He promises nothing. His “Make America Great,” is the best flimflam line that promises nothing, yet promises everything to everyone who wants to believe, who imagines his own great little world.
My mother was considered a fortune teller. People came from far and wide to have her read their palms or coffee grounds. I listened to her on occasion. She understood how to speak to people in a way that anything she said could be interpreted by the listener as applying to his/her own life. She was never wrong. “You are troubled by something.” Duh, that’s why people came to hear their fortune.
She could have made millions if she had charged for this service. She did not. Trump would call her stupid for not making money off of desperate people.
Trump, using his mojo, will win the election because people only hear what they want to hear.
Although HRC is not my first choice, I think the best thing that could happen is that Trump is defeated in an overwhelming, startling, historic election that clearly pushes the old out and the new in.
Realistically HRC will not change much. But a massive defeat for Trump, means the collapse of the old right, the fundamentalist right, the stupid, religious, archaic right who believe they are fighting ancient battles, already lost.
HRC will do no harm. Her administration will buy time for the younger generations to establish their own objectives, to grab footholds in the political cliff and begin their climb to the top. Future opportunities can be preserved with a HRC administration. We, the United States and the world, are on the precipice of enormous scientific and technological changes. Medical research, water, air, environmental, and others have the potential of solving some of the most horrendous problems facing us everywhere. The US tends to be a leader. We need to find new ways of leading, by doing, by cooperation and by innovation.
Our political structures are archaic and cumbersome for the swift world we live in right now. They all have to be re-invented, refined. Our political systems are human constructs. We made them up, whether they be Divine Rights of Kings, Red Revolutions, or constitutional/parliamentary governments. We can alter them to meet the need of our time—a time when electronic communication, having the shortest data pulse capacity between point x and point y determines billions of dollars in capital on Wall Street.
We need at least two parties, we need substantive choices.
We need political parties that provide rational options, rational alternatives. We need fiscal conservatism, without killing progress, without starving the poor. We need to move away from a Calvinistic view of wealth and poverty, the trickle down theories—from God, to the rich, to the poor. The new parties need to get out of the morality game: women and their bodies, people and their sexuality, their drugs, their lifestyles. We need true social and economic justice.
We need to rethink economic organization: Is capital accumulation really the highest goal of all of the millions of years of human evolution? What is our role in the world for the 21st, 22nd, 23rd centuries?
Maybe new thoughts will only come about when my generation dies out.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
