I usually don't get involved in this political stuff, but this election is too critical to ignore. Last night, I was reading The Federalist Papers again and saw that 40 years ago, I had underlined the following words:
It has been frequently remarked that it seems to have been reserved to the people of this country, by their conduct and example, to decide the important question, whether societies of men are really capable or not of establishing good government from reflection and choice, or whether they are forever destined to depend for their political constitutions on accident and force. --Alexander Hamilton
I am not a flag-waving patriot. I'm the kind of patriot that believes it my duty to be vigilant, to have high expectations of my nation, to see its flaws and to demand correction by making phone calls, sending emails, talking to people, or signing petitions. I believe we established a system far superior to those existing nearly three hundred years ago, a system that other peoples embraced and improved on since. I believe in a process which relies on the peaceful transition of power, on the ability of people to select and participate in the making of their own history.
I believe we are facing a crisis, that this is a strange time in our history and the history of the world and that through complacency, anger, frustration or dislike, many people will not vote. I believe that we must act. Failure to do so may be a great misfortune, not only to us, but to those in the world who look to us hoping that one day, they too might have a chance to form their own imperfect union.
So, take a step. Put your networks to work. We have a chance to choose the future, not some Better Neverland that recalls some mythical past. And we can break through the Congressional blockade. The Senate race is essential, especially if Trump wins--which despite the pundits and polls--I think he will. Check out LA Times poll which shows Trump and Clinton neck and neck due to the undecided (complacent). http://www.latimes.com/politics/
The two most important Senate races for the future, no matter who is elected, are Nevada and Arizona. Please help win these seats.
